South Laguna Beach

South Laguna Beach Real Estate

The community of South Laguna Beach begins just three miles south of downtown Laguna Beach, and is known for being the more relaxed side of Laguna Beach. It was annexed to the city of Laguna Beach in 1987, and only after many discussions and agreements on keeping the existing community “feel” in place.

South Laguna Beach enjoys gorgeous, wide-open beaches, a beautiful rugged coastline and a quieter hub of retail and restaurants.

The small, 4-lane Pacific Coast Highway separates South Laguna Beach with larger homes terraced down to the beaches or enjoying significant ocean views. Across PCH, the “original” South Laguna Beach totes large homes as well, but also enjoys a village of smaller, cottage homes.

The South Laguna Beach community is a mix of residents, with retired millionaires and grandparents happily residing next to families with kids of all ages. It has created the city’s only Community Garden, enjoys the largest Halloween party in town (by invitation only), and offers neighborly restaurants and mellow bars that greet residents by name. More natives of Laguna Beach live in South Laguna, likely because it remains a bit of a throw back to mellower times in Laguna Beach.

South Laguna is also the worldwide home to skimboarding – actually begun on West Street Beach – and you will find skimboarders of all ages dotting the beaches, from the southerly 1000 Steps Beach to Treasure Island Beach and Victoria Street Beach, which each shoulder the Montage Resort.
